WHY HAVE 2 INTERPRETERS IF ONLY ONE PERSON REQUIRES INTERPRETATION?
Conference interpretation ranks among the most stressful professions, comparable to those of air traffic controllers, brain surgeons and stock brokers. Interpreters need total concentration and the capacity to perform both accurately and immediately. It has been proven that after approximately one hour of uninterrupted work in these conditions, mental fatigue is inevitable and leads to poor performance. This happens regardless of the number of participants and the formality of the event. For this reason, professional interpreters work in teams of two - or three in very long sessions - , alternating every 20-30 minutes.
